E.A.R.L.Y.
(Early Assessment and Remediation of Learning Disabilities in the
Young) is a pilot project being set-up to develop a best practices
model (prototype) of cost-effective assessment and remediation for
kindergarten-age children who are at risk for a learning disability.
The project is the first of its kind in Quebec. The goals of the
program are:
1.
Identifying young children in kindergarten, both anglophone and
francophone, who are potentially at risk for language-based learning.
2.
Devising an intervention plan that will be effective for the largest
population based on the latest research and the best practices methods.
LAM
has been using a model of E.A.R.L.Y. in the kindergarten of one
Montreal school for many years. This has resulted in identifying
children and providing extra support to both student and teacher
and more success at school. This has also lessened self-esteem and
behaviour problems.
